Cherishing Moments

Morning ritual including Headspace. Drove to Imagine Coffee, worked on my day plan. Added the Pre-New Zealand exercise plan to my calendar. Jim and Larry came to SESIG. Figured out how to get Joey to and from New Zealand. Went to lunch at Broken Yolk with Karen, interesting conversation about her quilting. Went and saw the quilt show at the Art Center—quilt work by Niraja Lorenz, daughter of Edward Norton Lorenz. Came home and worked on a composite of Joey that turned out well, it became a BR Gallery post for mid to late January. Started Pre-New Zealand workouts. Beer at Suds with Cathy, Michael, Kim, Amelia, Tim, and Mary. Skipped yoga in the evening. Watched Ancient Civilizations. Some Hogan's Heroes. Some Firefly. Started watching the Phoenician Scheme. Joey arrived around midnight, hung out and talked for a few hours. This morning's Headspace Wakeup on the topic of closure—guidance on accepting the unfinished messiness that your life is, leads to appreciating and cherishing every moment spent with others.

From Morning Meditation to Late-Night Talk

December 24, 2025

These notes describe the events of Tuesday, 12/23/2025.

Morning ritual including Headspace. The Wakeup meditation on the topic of closure, guidance on accepting the unfinished messiness that life is. The reminder to appreciate and cherish every moment, particularly those moments spent with others. It is a gift to be able to share time, joy, conversation, pain, whatever with someone else. The recognition that I'm flooded with these gifts—something I would never have guessed or appreciated in younger years.

Drove to Imagine Coffee. Worked on my day plan. Added the Pre-New Zealand exercise plan to my calendar. The intentional preparation for the trip, building physical conditioning into the schedule.

Jim and Larry came to SESIG. Topics included journaling, geopolitics, and Larry's pondering about moving. The characteristic SESIG range—personal practice, global events, major life decisions all explored in the same conversation.

Figured out how to get Joey to and from New Zealand. It involves flying in and out of Christchurch then taking Air New Zealand flights to Nelson and from Queensland. The logistics puzzle solved, the trip back on after yesterday's disappointment. The shared adventure restored.

Went to lunch at Broken Yolk with Karen. Interesting conversation about her quilting. The craft and artistry, the technical challenges and creative decisions.

Went and saw the quilt show at the Art Center. The quilt work is by Niraja Lorenz, the daughter of Edward Norton Lorenz—the inventor/discoverer of the Lorenz Attractor. The connection between chaos theory mathematics and textile art, the daughter of the man who discovered deterministic chaos creating ordered beauty from fabric. The unexpected lineage, the different expressions of pattern and complexity across generations.

Joey composite
Came home and worked on a composite of Joey that turned out well. It became BR Gallery post for mid to late January. The creative work flowing, the image capturing what I wanted, the satisfaction of producing something worth sharing.

Started my Pre-New Zealand workouts. The physical conditioning program beginning, the first session completed. Building strength and endurance for the journey ahead.

Beer at Suds with Cathy, Michael, Kim, Amelia, Tim, and Mary. The regular gathering expanded, the social circle providing connection and conversation.

Skipped yoga in the evening. The particular program didn't appeal to me. Choosing what works rather than forcing engagement with what doesn't.

Watched Ancient Civilizations. The beginning of a set of lectures on Western Hemisphere civilizations. The shift from Old World to New World, different patterns of human organization and achievement. Some Hogan's Heroes. Some Firefly. Started watching the Phoenician Scheme. Pretty weird, pretty funny. The evening's entertainment mix—historical documentary, comfort TV, science fiction, absurdist comedy.

Joey arrived around midnight. We hung out and talked for a few hours. The late-night conversation, the reconnection after the trip logistics stress. The gift of shared time and talk, the value of just being together.

The day moving from meditation on closure and cherishing moments to actually living that guidance. Solving the New Zealand logistics, restoring the shared adventure. Lunch conversation about quilting leading to unexpected mathematical-artistic connections at the quilt show. Creative work on Joey's composite, physical work on fitness preparation, social work at Suds. The late-night arrival and conversation embodying exactly what the morning meditation suggested—appreciating the gift of shared time. The unfinished messiness of life accepted, the moments cherished as they arrive.
