Bank Holiday Rest Day

Sometimes the best travel days are the ones where nothing much happens. Bank Holiday Monday meant closed shops and crowded attractions, so we stayed around the house—wine in the garden, conversation, letting jet lag work itself out at its own pace. A morning supply run to Tesco, an afternoon walk through Thornbury photographing flowers and berries, getting the cameras adjusted to the light here. The Pale Blue Eye in the evening, intense and gothic, perfect for someone still disoriented from travel. Tomorrow we head north toward Ironbridge and the real work begins. But today was exactly what I needed: the slow start before diving into the main event.

Garden Time and Adjustment

August 26, 2025

Yesterday was a Bank Holiday, which meant most things were either closed or packed with weekend crowds. We spent most of the day around the house, which turned out to be exactly what I needed.

Ian and Emma have a pleasant garden out back. It was a wine and conversation kind of day—good for letting the jet lag work itself out. I'm still dozing off occasionally, so the slow pace worked.

From the walk
We did make it to Tesco for supplies in the morning, then took a walk around Thornbury in the afternoon. Lots of flowers and berries to photograph, plus a few other local sights. Nothing dramatic, but good for getting the cameras working and my eye adjusted to the light here.

Stayed in for dinner. Watched The Pale Blue Eye—a gothic mystery with Christian Bale. Well made and intense. The kind of film that benefits from being watched when you're still a bit disoriented from travel.

Today we head toward Iron Bridge. The Industrial Age investigation begins for real. Sometimes the slow start is exactly what you need before diving into the main event.
